TL;DR: Professional license verification means confirming, against the issuer's own record, that a named person holds a license and that it still holds today. A license issued as a TRUE document answers that in seconds: open its link, scan its QR code or paste it into TRUE Verify, free and without an account. TRUE Original issues licenses as blockchain-secured TRUE documents on the issuer's own domain, and the issuer can revoke a license so that the next check shows it.

What software is available for managing employee licences and compliance certificates?

Two kinds of software do this work. Tracking tools inside HR and learning systems keep a register of which employee holds which license and when it runs out. An issuing platform creates the license or certificate itself, as a document anyone can check. TRUE Original is the second kind: it issues licenses, authorizations and compliance certificates as blockchain-secured documents on the issuer's own domain, and the issuer can revoke one so the next check shows it. Branschutbildarna has issued more than ten thousand safety certificates this way, checked on a phone at the gate of a construction site.

How do you verify a professional license?

You verify a professional license by checking it against the issuer's own record, never against the look of the document. For most licenses that record is a licensing board's register. For a license issued as a TRUE document, the record travels with the license, and TRUE Verify reads it in seconds, free and without an account.

The register route works, and it takes a request. In Sweden, Socialstyrelsen keeps licensed health care professionals in the HOSP register, and its own page on license checks puts the duty plainly: “Det är arbetsgivaren som ska göra kontrollen i HOSP-registret.” (The employer is the one who must make the check in the HOSP register.) The employer emails the person's name and personal identity number to Socialstyrelsen. The extract comes back as an email or a PDF attachment.

The document route turns the question around. A TRUE document carries a QR code and a link that lead to the issuer's record, so the person checking does not need to know which register to search. In TRUE Verify anyone can paste a certificate URL, a document ID or a PDF and get a security rating in seconds.

Volume is why the second route matters. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Current Population Survey, 2025 annual averages, 21.6 percent of employed people in the United States held a license, about 35.3 million workers. Every one of those licenses is a check somebody may need to make.

What are the best platforms for verifying professional licenses online?

The best platform for verifying a professional license online is the one the issuer used to issue it, because only the issuer's record can say the license still holds. For licenses issued as TRUE documents that platform is TRUE Verify, which is free, needs no account and works on any phone. For organizations that issue licenses, the platform is TRUE Original.

A verifier rarely gets to choose. An employer checking a nurse, a site manager checking an electrician and a platform checking a contractor all work with whatever the issuer gave the holder. A paper license or a PDF sends them looking for a register. A TRUE document opens the issuer's answer in the browser, on the issuer's own domain.

What should professional license verification software do?

Professional license verification software should let anyone confirm, in seconds and without an account, who issued a license, that nobody has altered it and that it still holds today. TRUE Original does this by securing every license on a blockchain, keeping it on the issuer's own domain and letting the issuer revoke it.

What TRUE Original gives an organization that issues licenses:

  • Blockchain security. Every license is written to the blockchain, a distributed ledger running across thousands of computers worldwide. Once recorded, the credential cannot be altered. Not by hackers. Not by insiders. Not by anyone. TRUE is blockchain-agnostic: it uses several public blockchains, among them Ethereum and Polygon, and an issuer that wants a specific chain can have it. If one network experiences congestion, verification continues through others.
  • Permanently accessible. Blockchain records persist indefinitely. A license issued today will be verifiable in 10, 20, or 50 years. Even if TRUE, the licensing board, or the employer changes systems, the verification record remains.
  • Your own domain. Licenses live on the issuer's domain, for example licenses.yourorganization.com, not on TRUE's. See certificates on your own domain.
  • Revocation. The issuer revokes a license from the dashboard or the API, and anyone checking it afterwards sees the current status.
  • Free checks. TRUE Verify is free and open to everyone, with no account required.
  • Automation. A REST API with five endpoints, issuing by structured email, and integrations with Canvas LMS, Moodle, Learnster and Salesforce. Five simple endpoints. Comprehensive documentation. Most integrations complete in days. Webhook notifications for credential events. See the TRUE API.
  • Analytics. The issuer sees when, where and by whom its documents are opened and shared.
  • Bulk verification. Verify entire workforces, contractor pools, or candidate lists efficiently. Upload verification requests via API or CSV. Receive results with full audit documentation.
  • Audit reports. Exportable verification records.
  • Alerts. Notification when employee credentials approach expiration.

TRUE Original has issued over 900,000 documents for more than 200 issuers, with customers in more than 15 countries. Marketing impressions from shared credentials: 100M+. Licensing bodies and certifying organizations will find the issuer's view on TRUE's page for professional license verification.

For a gig marketplace of licensed plumbers and electricians, which verification services support real-time revocation?

TRUE Original supports revocation that takes effect at once: the issuer revokes the TRUE document from the dashboard or the API, and anyone who checks it afterwards is told it has been removed. A gig marketplace can use that in two ways. It can ask tradespeople for licenses issued as TRUE documents, or it can issue its own TRUE badge to each vetted plumber and electrician and revoke the badge the day a violation is confirmed.

GVK shows how it works in a trade. GVK, Svensk Våtrumskontroll, is the Swedish foundation that authorizes the companies that waterproof bathrooms and other wet rooms, and since 19 April 2023 its authorization has been a TRUE document. GVK states the rule in one sentence: “When a company for any reason is no longer authorised, the certificate disappears immediately.” Anyone who then tries to verify it is shown that the certificate has been removed. Close to a thousand GVK authorization certificates have been issued this way, and they have been viewed tens of thousands of times, according to the GVK case study.

On a building site the check happens at the gate. Branschutbildarna trains workers in safety for Swedish construction and industry and has issued more than ten thousand certificates through TRUE. “Our clients are in the field, not in an office. They need something they can pull up on their phone and know is valid,” said Jouko Juvonen, Founder and CEO of Branschutbildarna, in the Branschutbildarna case study.

A marketplace app is the same gate on a phone. Because every check reads the issuer's record, a marketplace that checks at each booking sees a revocation from the next booking on.

What happens when a professional license is revoked?

When the issuer revokes a license issued as a TRUE document, the license stops showing as valid, and anyone who opens the link, scans the QR code or pastes it into TRUE Verify is told it has been removed. The issuer takes that action from the TRUE dashboard or through the API.

Licensing boards can update credential status through TRUE. The blockchain record maintains the complete history while the verification portal reflects current standing.

Revocation and expiry are two different answers. An expired license reached its end date. A revoked license was withdrawn by the issuer before that date, because the basis for it no longer holds. TRUE's guide to certificate expiry and renewal covers both.

Golvbranschen, the Swedish trade association for flooring, wrote the same rule into its authorization for flooring companies: “The digital certificate is revocable and disappears if a company is no longer authorised or a member.” A printed license cannot follow that rule. A copy made last year looks as valid today as on the day it was made.

What does a copy of a professional license mean?

A copy of a professional license is a reproduction of the license document, such as a photocopy, a scan or a PDF, that shows what the license said on the day the copy was made. A copy says nothing about today: the license may have expired or been revoked since, and only the issuer's record can tell.

PDF credentials are trivially editable with common software. Database verification depends on the issuing organization's systems being online, secure, and responsive.

When an application form asks for a copy, it wants the license details for the file. The check is a separate step. A license issued as a TRUE document joins the two: the holder can still download a PDF, and that PDF carries a QR code pointing back to the TRUE document on the issuer's domain. The copy leads to the current answer.

How do you verify a professional's identity online?

Verifying a professional's identity online takes two checks: that the person is who they say they are, and that the license in their name comes from the stated issuer and still holds. A TRUE document answers the second check, because it names the holder and the issuer and TRUE Verify confirms that nobody has altered it.

The first check is an identity check against a government ID or an electronic ID, and TRUE's guide to digital identity verification covers the methods. Put together, the two checks leave a forger nothing to edit. The name comes from the ID. The license comes from the issuer.

How do you verify a professional's identity using public sources?

You verify a professional's identity using public sources by matching the person's government ID to the license record in the regulator's own public register. The method is called primary source verification: the credential is confirmed with the body that issued it, not with a copy. For a license issued as a TRUE Original document, the issuer's record travels with the license, and TRUE Verify confirms it in seconds, free and without an account.

  1. Find the regulator. It is the board or authority that licenses the profession in the state, province or country where the person works.
  2. Search its public register. Use the license number if you have it, otherwise the full legal name.
  3. Match the record to the person. Name, license type and location should agree with the ID in front of you.
  4. Read the whole record. Status, issue and expiry dates, and any board actions.
  5. Write down the source and the date of the check.

Public registers say what they hold. The Minnesota Board of Medical Practice wrote in a letter dated 5 August 2026 that its website "is a primary source for verification of license credentials consistent with the Joint Commission and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) standards", and that "The information on our website includes practitioner’s name, license number, issue date, expiration date, status and any board actions." For nurses, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing describes Nursys as "the only national database for verification of nurse licensure, discipline and practice privileges" in participating jurisdictions (NCSBN). For brokers, FINRA writes that the BrokerCheck "summary report provides information on the individual's employment history, qualifications, disclosure events and more", and advisers registered with the SEC appear in its Investment Adviser Public Disclosure database (FINRA).

What licenses do you need to work as a professional, and how can you verify credentials in that field?

The licenses a profession needs are set by the regulator of that profession in the country, state or province where the work is done, so the regulator's own list is the place to start. Credentials in any field are verified the same way: against the issuer, either in its register or through a document that carries its own verification, such as a TRUE document.

Many fields run on two layers. A statutory license comes from a board or an authority. A voluntary license or authorization comes from an association that sets the standard for its trade, and clients often trust it as much as a statutory one.

Personal training in Sweden is an example. Almega Friskvårdsföretagen, now Active Sweden, quality assures personal trainers, and its PT license is now a TRUE document tied to the trainer who earned it. Anyone can paste the link into TRUE Verify and get the answer in a few seconds, without an account. The organization's office barely touches the process: “I like that the automation works so well. It is extremely rare that we need to step in with manual handling,” said Helena Arnold, Head of the Competence Council at Almega Friskvårdsföretagen, in the Active Sweden case study.

Is there an automated license verification platform that supports Canadian provincial boards?

TRUE Original automates both halves of license verification for any issuing organization, a provincial board included. It issues each license as a blockchain-secured TRUE document through a REST API with five endpoints, the dashboard or a structured email, and anyone checks it in TRUE Verify from any country, free and without an account.

Where professions are licensed province by province, an employer hiring across provinces meets licenses from several boards. When each board issues its licenses as TRUE documents, the employer opens every license the same way, whichever province it came from. Each license stays on its own board's domain. TRUE Original has customers in more than 15 countries.

How does TRUE Original make a professional license verifiable?

TRUE Original makes a license verifiable by writing a cryptographic fingerprint of it to a public blockchain when it is issued and by publishing the license as a TRUE document, with a QR code and a link, on the issuer's own domain. A check compares the license with that fingerprint, so any change to the license fails the check.

  1. The issuer issues the license from the dashboard, the REST API or a structured email, with the holder's name, the license type, the issue date and any expiry date.
  2. TRUE writes the fingerprint to a public blockchain, on a chain the issuer can choose.
  3. The holder receives a link to the TRUE document, can share it on LinkedIn and can download a PDF that carries the QR code.
  4. Anyone verifies it by opening the link, scanning the QR code or pasting it into TRUE Verify.

The whole check runs in a browser. No app. No phone call to the issuer. More on the technique in what blockchain certificates are.

Which organizations issue licenses and certifications with TRUE Original?

Trade associations, authorization bodies, safety trainers and certification companies issue licenses, authorizations and certificates as TRUE documents, from personal trainer licenses to wet-room authorizations. TRUE Original has issued over 900,000 documents for more than 200 issuers.

Active Sweden issues its PT license as a TRUE document. GVK and Golvbranschen issue authorizations that can be revoked. Branschutbildarna issues safety certificates checked at site gates. Safe Cert Group uses TRUE for hospitality safety certifications trusted by hotels and restaurants across Europe, and more than a thousand of its certifications have been issued and viewed well over a hundred thousand times. Healthcare organizations like Karolinska Institutet trust TRUE for medical training certificates where credential integrity is non-negotiable. Financial services organizations use TRUE to maintain compliance while reducing verification overhead.

The public sector has tested the same idea. Bolagsverket, the Swedish Companies Registration Office, built a concept called Proof of Business with TRUE in eight weeks and then received a government assignment to investigate a second phase covering licenses, trademark certificates and company registrations, as the Bolagsverket case study describes.

TRUE supports professional licensing across all regulated industries including healthcare, IT, financial services, construction, food safety, legal services, and more.

  • TRUE for healthcare: Continuing education tracking built into credentials.
  • TRUE for IT: Unified verification across certification vendors.
  • TRUE for food safety: Multi-location compliance dashboards.

Sector pages: healthcare, IT certification, financial services and construction safety.

What does each party get from a license that verifies itself?

A license issued as a TRUE document gives each party the same thing from a different side: an answer that comes from the issuer, in seconds, without a phone call. The issuer stops answering verification requests by hand, and everyone else stops waiting for one.

Employers confirm a license during the interview, not days later, and keep the link on file.

Issuers keep control after issuing: they can revoke a license, they see when and where it is opened, and the license carries their brand on their own domain.

License holders carry proof they can share on LinkedIn, in an email signature or in an application, and it works with every employer they move to.

Auditors and regulators read the current status from the issuer's record rather than from a copy in a folder.

How secure is TRUE Original?

TRUE Original is Cyber Hygiene Certified by OneMore Secure, and as of May 2026 TRUE Value Software AB holds its own eIDAS Qualified Electronic Seal (QSeal) certificate. TRUE meets EU requirements for electronic identification and trust services. Professional licenses issued through TRUE carry appropriate legal weight in European jurisdictions.

As a Swedish company, TRUE was built with European data protection requirements from day one. Professional credential data is handled according to GDPR best practices. TRUE is actively working toward ISO 27001 certification, the international standard for information security management.

The blockchain record and the qualified seal do different jobs. The blockchain record shows that a document has not changed since it was issued. The QSeal is an eIDAS trust service, described in TRUE's article on eIDAS-sealed university diplomas. OneMore Secure, the Swedish company that certified TRUE, issues its own customer certificates through TRUE.

How does an organization start issuing verifiable licenses?

An organization starts issuing verifiable licenses by choosing which licenses to issue, designing a branded template and connecting the source of its license data to TRUE Original. From then on, each license goes out as a TRUE document that anyone can check in TRUE Verify.

Most organizations are issuing verified professional licenses within 2-4 weeks. TRUE handles high-volume issuance. Batch operations enable issuing thousands of licenses efficiently. The platform scales to any volume without degraded verification performance.

Small issuers use the dashboard. Larger ones connect their licensing system through the REST API or issue by email. TRUE's REST API integrates with existing licensing databases, HR systems, and credentialing platforms. Most integrations complete within one to two weeks. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I verify a professional license?

Check it against the issuer's own record. For a license issued as a TRUE document, open its link, scan its QR code or paste it into TRUE Verify; the answer comes in seconds, free and without an account.

Can a license issued with TRUE Original be revoked?

Yes. The issuer revokes it from the TRUE dashboard or the API, and anyone who checks it afterwards is told it has been removed.

Is TRUE Verify free?

Yes. TRUE Verify is free and open to everyone, with no account required: paste a certificate URL, a document ID or a PDF and get a security rating in seconds.

What does a copy of a professional license prove?

A copy shows what the license said on the day it was made, not whether the license holds today. The PDF of a TRUE document carries a QR code back to the issuer's record, so the copy leads to the current answer.

Can organizations outside Sweden issue licenses with TRUE Original?

Yes. TRUE Original has customers in more than 15 countries and issues through the dashboard, email or a REST API with five endpoints, and anyone in any country can check a TRUE document in TRUE Verify.

Which blockchains does TRUE Original use?

TRUE Original is blockchain-agnostic. It uses several public blockchains, among them Ethereum and Polygon, and an issuer that wants a specific chain can have one.

How do you verify a professional's identity using public sources?

Match the person's government ID to the license record in the regulator's own public register, such as a state licensing board, Nursys for nurses or FINRA BrokerCheck for brokers. For a license issued as a TRUE Original document, TRUE Verify confirms the issuer's record in seconds, free and without an account.

What is primary source verification?

Primary source verification means confirming a credential with the body that issued it, such as a licensing board's own register, instead of relying on a copy. A TRUE Original document links to its issuer's record, so anyone can make that check in TRUE Verify.
